The Possession Experiment is a 2016 American independent horror film centered around a college student’s quest to prove the existence of demonic possession through a dangerous and public “experiment.” Host to found footage elements and supernatural horror, the film combines modern social media culture with classic exorcism tropes.

Brandon Jensen, a college theology student fascinated by demonology, proposes a final project to explore real-world exorcisms. Driven by curiosity, he launches an online fundraising campaign to finance a filmed “possession experiment,” inviting viewers to witness him attempt to summon a demon and become possessed live on the internet. With classmates Leda and Clay, Brandon investigates a notorious exorcism-related homicide from 20 years prior and arranges to conduct his experiment in the same location. As their investigation unfolds, Brandon’s obsession and the group’s ambition lead to chilling, violent, and supernatural consequences beyond their control.
