Full Story Summary

In a peaceful forest, a wise sage (महर्षि) lives in a small hut, surrounded by birds and animals. One day, a frightened mouse falls into the sage’s lap, narrowly escaping a crow’s attack. The sage, moved by the mouse’s plight, magically transforms him into a cat to free him from fear.

Not long after, the cat flees to the sage again—this time, terrified of a dog. Understanding the cat’s new fear, the sage turns him into a dog. But when the dog is later chased by a lion and runs back, the sage transforms his devoted “dog” into a mighty lion, making him king of the jungle.

As the lion, the former mouse becomes proud, thinking: “Everyone fears me… but the sage alone knows my real identity! If I get rid of him, I’ll be king forever.” One day, the lion tries to harm the sage. But the sage understands his plan and, using his powers, changes the lion back into a mouse. The mouse begs for forgiveness, but the wise sage refuses to grant him those powers again, having seen his ingratitude and arrogance.

Moral of the Story

True power comes from accepting who you are and being grateful, not from seeking to be someone else. Pride and betrayal can take away even the greatest gifts.
